Pre-School/Pre-Kindergarten Program

The focus of the Pre-School/Pre-Kindergarten program is to provide experiences that meet the children’s individual needs and stimulate learning in all developmental areas -- physical, social, emotional, and intellectual. Interactions and activities are designed to foster the self-esteem of the child and to develop positive feelings toward learning.

The children will be engaged in a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Within this curriculum, children will work individually, in small groups and in large group settings. Children will be engaged in a variety of learning experiences such as dramatic play, block play, science and math experiences, puzzles, books, art, music and much more.

An integral part of our Catholic education is the teaching of our Catholic faith. Prayers and a love of Jesus developed through Bible stories are an important part of our program. The children participate in many of the all-school religion activities planned throughout the year. Lastly, our children thrive and learn in an atmosphere where Catholic values are visible, proclaimed and become part of their everyday lives.

Pre-School and Pre-Kindergarten students also participate in special activities such as computer education, physical education and music. The classes are taught by specialty teachers in these areas on a weekly basis.

What will my child learn?

Most parents ask if their child will learn about letters, numbers, name writing, etc. The answer is yes, plus so much more! Your child will be given countless opportunities to learn through puzzles, manipulatives, game playing, dramatic play, block building...the list is long! We provide an environment that meets the developmental needs of your child and also provides a multitude of learning experiences. For example, play dough provides fine motor development, dramatic play builds social skills and oral language, math manipulatives are used for comparing objects, identifying numbers and creating patterns. The children think they are playing, but they are learning at the same time. We provide many centers and even more skills associated with each. So, yes, your child will learn some basic skills as well as so much more!

Should I enroll my child in the half-day or full-day program?

That really depends on your needs. Each half-day program stands on its own in regard to curriculum. In other words, our main curriculum is covered in the mornings. The afternoon program was mainly initiated for those parents who needed their children to be in school on a full time basis due to their work schedule.

Is a Catholic education worth it?

We feel a Catholic education is an investment in your child’s future. A Catholic education isn’t only about getting a religion lesson once a day. At St. Eugene, your child is going to live his/her faith on a daily basis. Catholic values, morals, and expectations are in place in every aspect of your child’s school life from starting the day with prayer to treating their peers with respect. When you consider how long your child will be in school and when you think about how formative the early years are….a Catholic education for many parents no longer becomes a choice but a commitment to the future of each individual child.
